Many HRAs have buildings whose residents are elderly or have underlying health conditions making them at high risk of adverse effects of COVID19. Some housing authorities have coordinated with their local public health departments to prioritize these residents when vaccine distribution begins.

Nearly nine months after the passage of the CARES Act, significant progress is finally being made on an end of the year legislative package that includes COVID-19 rental assistance and FY21 HUD funding. While talks continue, a final agreement remains elusive. The bill includes:
- $25 billion in rental assistance funding
- an extension of the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) eviction moratorium.
- HUD funding for FY2021 element are not yet public
